Jim Shaw has lived in this area, the Southern Nicoya Peninsula, for over 28 years. Originally from California, he came to Tambor when the Hotel Barceló Hotel Playa Tambor opened in 1992 and was the director of all tours for 9 years. He met his wife, Rita, here and they have been married for over 25 years.
Jim has watched the area grow from cattle, mangos and fishing to a popular tourist destination. When he came here there was no ferry, then one ferry that carried 35 cars, later a 160 car ferry and now two 160 car ferries and a busy local airport. Still, the access has limited the development and preserved the wonderful features of this area, an abundance of wildlife, uncrowded beaches, an even tropical climate and friendly people.
Land prices and home prices are 50% less than in the more well-known tourist areas. There is not that much selection, but there is a wide variety to choose from here. Jim has developed three residential communities of home-sites and recently sold his 200 acre teak farm. Jim knows what is available on the market and will help you find what you are looking for.
